Tee Labs Recognized as Innovative Incubator in Pudong New Area

 

Following a review by the Shanghai Pudong New Area Science, Technology and Economic Commission, Tee Labs was officially recognized as an Innovative Incubator of Pudong New Area on August 11, 2022. Tee Labs and its incubated companies are now eligible to enjoy corresponding incentive policies.

Since its official launch in September 2021, Tee Labs has successfully helped 10 new drug R&D and medical technology companies to establish their operations. Tee Labs is dedicated to helping early-stage companies reduce the one-time capital investment of building laboratories, assisting them with the various initial setup and operational procedures, and providing professional office and laboratory operational services. This significantly shortens the companies’ startup time and enables them to quickly enter the R&D phase. In less than a year, the total financing raised by its incubated companies has exceeded 2 billion RMB. (As of August 24, 2022, the USD to RMB exchange rate is 1:6.8)

Tee Labs Space Introduction

Tee Labs is located in the central area of Zhangjiang Science City, in a park at the Zhongke Road station exit of Metro Line 13, near the Jinke Road exit of the Middle Ring Road. The park is adjacent to research institutions such as ShanghaiTech University, the Shanghai Institute for Advanced Immunochemical Studies, and the National Center for Protein Science, placing it in the core development zone of Zhangjiang Science City. It is a core hub integrating research, living, and transportation.

Currently, Tee Labs has approximately 2,600 square meters of incubation space, with 1,500 square meters dedicated to laboratory areas. The lab areas include a chemistry lab, a molecular biology lab, a cell culture lab, a bacterial culture lab, and a BSL-2 lab. The variety of lab spaces supports companies with different R&D directions and allows early-stage companies to have multiple teams working within the same space. Tee Labs uses an open-plan office and lab layout, which significantly reduces the spatial and cost waste associated with partitions. Incubated companies can adjust the size of their leased area according to their changing business needs.

Chemistry Laboratory

Tee Labs chemistry laboratory has an actual area of approximately 280 square meters, which includes 12 standard operating fume hoods, 6 fume hoods for expanded equipment, and 2 constant temperature and humidity analysis rooms. Due to environmental protection and safety planning in the core area of Zhangjiang, chemistry laboratory resources in this block are extremely scarce. Tee Labs has adopted the facility, equipment, and management models of a Fortune 500 biopharmaceutical company to provide a safe and reliable experimental environment for small molecule R&D. Regulated chemicals involved in chemistry experiments are uniformly procured and managed by the Tee Labs operations team. While ensuring operational compliance and safety, this greatly reduces the management costs and time investment required from incubated companies.

Molecular Biology Laboratory and Cell Culture Laboratory

Tee Labs molecular biology and cell culture laboratories have a combined actual area of approximately 600 square meters. This includes over 80 molecular biology workstations, 3 small cell culture rooms (with 2 biosafety cabinets), 1 large cell culture room (with 7 biosafety cabinets), 1 bacterial culture room, 1 darkroom, and 1 cold room. All cell culture rooms use biosafety cabinets instead of clean benches. This not only solves the issue of cross-contamination between samples for incubated companies but also protects personnel from exposure to samples and chemicals. The large cell culture room allows for the rental of a single biosafety cabinet, meeting the earliest-stage experimental needs of an incubated company at a minimal cost.
